Im planning on putting on some new gaskets on my ol 216. Any suggestions as to what sealer I should use. These would be the side cover and valve cover gaskets. Also if rebuilding a carb what sealer then? Sorry if these are dumb or repeated questions but Im new to this stuff.
    Thank You

Back in the day, indian head shellac was the sealer of choice. I'm sure this holds true today. Good stuff, look for the brown bottle.

I guess I'm getting old as my son finally talked me into trying Anerobic Sealnts
and they work pretty well these days .

The very best one you'll find is called " The Right Stuff " from Permatex and is
found in both tubes and aerosol cans , amazing stuff you have to try to believe .

You DO NOT use any sealants on carbys ! .
