Hey guy's, I was wondering. Does the 1962 235 have hydrollic lifters, or mechanical? I was told I had to run my engine with the valve cover off, to adjust the lifters.
Also whats the best way to tell if the lifters need adjusted?

The lifters should be hydraulic....BUT there are two types of hydraulic adjustments one is done with a screwdriver and wrench and the other is a socket and ratchet..... and yes the valve cover needs to be removed to do this..... the best way to tell if a lifter needs adjustment is to listen for a clacking noise..... if you can't tell which lifter is making the noise... get a 3ft peice of garden hose and put one end to your ear and the other end near the suspected lifter and move the hose around the lifters... this will isolate the noise and reveal which lifter(s) need adjusting......

The 235 in a 62 has hudraulic lifters. You need to take off the valve cover, and adjust it with it cold to start out with, then try to adjust the hot lash. The type of rocker arms that it has on it require a flathead screwdriver, and if my memory serves me correctly a 9/16 wrench. It might be 5/8. And you will of course need a feeler guage. Just remember that the firing order is 1-5-3-6-2-4, to make sure that the valves are all the way closed before you try to adjust them.
