Hi everyone. My water pump leaks but there is no play in the pully shaft .I cant move it at all. I know from years ago when a pump went bad there was always some play . I'm wondering if my gasket is just leaking . No I haven't taken it off yet. Thanks.

Depends upon where it is leaking from. If the pump has been on there for a long time, it is not likely a gasket leak. Look closely at the pump to see where it is leaking from. There is usually a hole in the pump casting near the shaft. That is usually where it will leak from if the pumps seals and bearings are going bad.

Oh yeah...welcome to the forum. Nice to have you on board but USUALLY we give no advice before newbies post pictures of their ride.

    Welcome aboard.

    Need pics., fellow Hoosier.
What Andy said, look for the weep-hole on the casting. I've had water pumps leak when the seal failed and the bearing was still good.

    Welcome j-man !

As mentioned , look up under neath the cast part of the water pump , you'll see a small drilled hole , if there's any staining around it , the seal is kaput .
