283 engine

Can anyone tell me what i would have to do to make my 283 v8 in to a stroker. what kinda crankshaft would i use? if i make it in to a stroker i would use 9.5:1 or 10:1 piston comperession.What would you recommend flat top or dished pistions. And can any one tell me the size of a combustion chamber on a stock head. the engine is a 1963 283. thanks

283s were all small journal cranks (3.0" stroke)so you are limited. A small journal 327 (3 1/4" stroke) crank will get you 307 or about 311 with a .030 bore job. All 350 (3.48" stroke) cranks are large journal and won't fit in the bearing saddles. You could have a custom crank made but you would spend much more than just building a 350 in the first place. The factory 307s were basically 327 cranks in a 283 bore but were large journal. I think most 283 heads (pyramid on the ends) were 64 cc except some of the early 2bbl engines that had 8:1 compression. ('57-'58)

what kind of tourqe do you think i could see if i used 10:1 piston compression. edelbrock cam# 2103 Duration at .050 Lift: Intake 214° Exhaust 214° Lobe Separation: 112°. A 327 small journal crank and a .030bore job. i will have a 3 2barrel set up edelbrock intake #5419
