I just piched up a 71 GMC long bed. I love the lines of the truck.

I was looking at the frame on a 4x4 and my truck and they seem to be the same. I was wondering if anyone knows if it is possible to make my truck into a 4x4. Has anyone tried, can you give me any pointers or is it a lost cause.....

BTW: Great forum, i'm new to the site, but have found in the past these foums are great for information exchanges. Keep up the good work.

I have converted a '71 stepside to four-wheel dirve. The main parts u will need is the spring shackles for the front and back of the front springs, and another shackel for the rear springs for the reason of it being shorter. I myself just used a lift block to make up the difference in height. In the rear of the front springs u will have to cut a hole on each side of the frame for the shackel go thru and bolt up. U will also need some new steering parts linkage, box?,trans, transfer case, drive shafts, front and rear ends, wheels if your is not already 6 lug. Trust me u would be far better off to find a junked 4-wheel drive truck frame and transfer your body onto it. Then the fun will begin because the vin numbers on your title are for a two wheel drive truck and you now have a 4-wheel drive truck. Now you have to go to the DMV and get a salvage title for your truck if you can can even get one in your state. P.S Been there, done that, wont do it again to much work.
