I know everyone has a opinion on this. I have a 85 Shortbed Stepside 2x with a bent frame. The truck is in great shape with most every option I wanted except 4x4. I know, thats a big one.
I want to restify the truck to look factory with 4x4 height and modified motor etc. With the frame already bent I am debating hunting down a 4x4 drive train to swap the body onto or going with 2"lifted coil springs and blocks that should give it comparable height.
I dont want to be any more rednecked than I already am by driving a lifted 2x "poor mans 4x" and would prefer to go with the drivetrain swap.
Does anyone know how difficult this would be aside from finding the donor vehicle. I have heard that its nothing more than a cab floor donation, and other obvious body transfering etc. and on the other hand a local 4x4 shop told me to sell the truck and look for another thats already a 4x4 to restore due to the difficulty of the project.
Please let me know if anyone has a been there done that story etc.
