Hi All, I am one of those guys who checks out the forum all the time but never contributes anything until I need something (like that no good brother-in-law who only calls you when he needs to borrow a tool). I have a 1951 3/4 ton and need to replace the parking brake cables. It seems that some companies sell parking cables for a 1/2 ton with an extension to accomidate the longer frame of the 3/4 ton. I have tried these and they just dont even seem to come close to fitting. Does anyone out there have any ideas or old 3/4 ton cables they can sell me? I have found that when it comes to parts, it really is a 1/2 ton world out there! Thanks - You guys are great and I have learned a ton - Ed
Trailer parts Hi Ed, as i have a 53 longbed, i didn´t find a place, who sells those cables either. What i´ve done is, i measured the length of the originals and went to a trailer dealer. As they have all different sizes of trailers, they should have those cables in a variety of styles and lengths... Only thing i had to change, was the threads were metric and so i had to weld an inch fastener on one end. But you should not have this problem here in the US, as i had in metric world... Hope this helps P.S: I´m also reading a lot in this forum and have hardly contributed anything, but these guys here have so much experience, it´s nearly impossible, to give them any advice
Google Over here in the uk there are a couple of companies who can make cables to any size or shape, sometimes you have to provide the end fittings for them but any machine shop should be able to knock them up for you, I'm sure in the vastly bigger US there must be cable manufacturers who can make you some? Even make a dozen or so for you to sell to others with the same problem so you make a bit for all your effort.
Thanks for the info - Thanks Guys! There is a trailer guy in the next town that I will swing by today to see what he has available. I have also went online and Googled "custom brake cables" and there are a number of companies in the U.S. - Looks like I will be covered either way - Ed
I've used CA PushPull for a number of cable needs, and they seem to do quite well...http://www.push-pull.com/ You'll need to tell them (or send a picture of) what type of ends you will need and how long you need them to be. Just one of many out there, but one I've been happy with...
Thanks spika. I actually got lucky with BowTie Bits. They had cables for the 3/4 ton - I like your 5 window - Ed
