Finally getting access to mill for carving out my ohc 302 GMC head. Have decided to go with a single ohc because the sample I very crudely cut out of wood shows a crowded situation to use hydraulic dampened cam followers. The only out I can figure in using two cams is to run them right on top the valves using lash caps like the 4.2 jag engine. They are a pain and when we old truck nuts build stuff we tend to make it easy to work on and not have a bunch of sharp edges to get cut on. Why can't Detroit listen? This is like apples to oranges but here is a pic what just came out of the mill.

    Wow ! that's a nice looking mill there .

    I was thinking ' oboy ! gmc 302 LONG ENGINE !....' :D

You know , the engineers have no troubles with this sort of thing , it's the doggoned bean counters who spoil it every time

I was going to put the vette engine in, but after looking into the cost of what it would be and all the other crap associated with it then I decided to go with a crate motor. The cheapest vette motor was going to be between $5k and $6k used and with several miles on it, and a new crate vette motor I don't even want to know how much. So I found a company that will build me a crate motor with 408HP any color I want and dress it with crome everywhere and billet pulleys for about $3800. So I think I'm going that route. The 32 on the other hand. I depends on my money situation at the time.

Nice peice of engineering Coilover, amazing what can be done with a hand drill and a file!! Only kidding, what was wrong with the cam buckets that Jaguars used? first used in 56' i think and was unchanged up until 98', bit of a pain to set up but didn't need lash adjustment for many many miles! (I grew up on a diet of old Jags, once did 156mph down the A5 in an original D type!) that was before speed cams lol

Absolutely nothing wrong with the Jag setup but I'm 70 and want to get the thing set up for a truck, not a wheelchair. Everytime I think I'm getting perfect I try to walk across the pond that's right across from the shop--so far I've sunk everytime. Seriously, wanted to go with the hydraulicly dampened cam followers so the tolerances will be a little more forgiving and that will speed up the project. The guys get grouchy when I use the machines for my toys when they have paying jobs in line.

If they get grouchy again tell them to be quiet and watch you work, looks like they could learn a hell of a lot from you going by the pictures!
