I am putting a 350 and a powerglide in my 57 pickup and wana know if any one could help me with any information they have on how to do it. If anyone who has already done it would like to tell me how to start i would apreciate it a lot.

I put a 350 and a TH350 in my '65. I already have the 283ci V8 motor mounts, so it dropped in. But I did have a big issue with SPACE, especially in back. The distributor is sandwiched in there really tight, and I pray I never see the day I have to change it. Long headers did clear the frame, which, I believe, did not change much between 57 and 65. For the tranny, I needed to shorten the driveshaft and modify the cross member just aft of the tranny.
I know we're talking about two different trucks, but hopefully this will give you a few ideas what to look for.

    05 Yukon 5.3 Vortec in 55 3100

Just bought a 05 Vortec complete with trans, computer and everything else. It has 17,000 miles and want to install in my 55 Chevy any pointers or advice?
I want to keep it as original as possible except for the running gear What issues will I face? Do I have to modify the firewall? I would greatly apreciate any help. Thanks Ray

a 350 should go in no problem. You have to decide on if you want stock type front mounts or box the frame and put side mounts, but you will have to remove the trans crossmember, as your new tranny uses a rear type mount unlike the front style you currently have. I would put the pcm in the glove box or under the dash somewhere. You will also need to put in an o2 sensor in your exhaust and you can buy the stuff to do that. Sounds like a great project. Good luck

Check out the thread, V8 Conversion 05/19/06. I swapped a 350 4 speed. It dropped in and uses the stock 59 bellhousing, no frame mods. Nice 59 bill55. I am doing my best to return my truck to stock. Your 3600 is a real inspiration.

Thanks Sledgehammer, your 59 looks cool as well. I just recently purchased mine and it still needs a few things like new bed wood, but is pretty much stock. It was a low milage truck owned by a school district and then a teacher bought it and restored it about 8yrs ago. He kept it in a garage and has held up pretty good. My 55 is a frame off restoration(street rod) and I'm begining to wonder if I will ever finish it. ;)
