Is there anything that would keep this from working? That tank a few posts back (Evan) has me thinking how great it would be to free up that space behind the seat for speakers, a remote mc fill, and better room to install two shoulder belts and move my lap belts to the center. There's just not a bunch of room back there to do much. Thanks for your ideez.
I like the idea myself. I sure would like to get the tank out from behind the seat. I heard there was an existing tank from another vehicle that fits under the bed. Does anyone know the year, make, & model of a vehicle with a gas tank that'll fit under the bed?
Ive found a metal fuel tank from a British small truck that is perfect, will fit under the bed on the passenger side just like the original ones and looks old style too, only trouble is locating one as new are 300 bucks and second hand undamaged ones are hard to find, they are exposed on the outside of the chassis and all i have found so far have big dents and digs on them, but i will find one! ________ Airsoft ak47
An update on the tank I built. I used 18 guage cold rolled steel and it is a rust magnet. The factory tanks used a leaded steel that was rust resistant though not rust proof. It may have something to do with the spring (in Texas) weather with the 80 degree days and 40 degree nights building lots of condensation. We are going to pull it, clean, and use the sloshing compound type sealer and try again. None of this costs the customer anything but the lesson is getting a little expensive. Will definitely use aluminum the next go-around even though the TIG welding is much slower. Material costs will not be that much higher. Come to think of it, somewhere I have an aluminum wire spool gun for the MIG that might be just the ticket. Will need some pure argon, new conduit, and play around a bit but heck, that's about all I'm suited for anymore with the eyes weak, the joints stiff, and the lead settled firmly in a seven decade old hiney. Enough autobiography already.
Hey coilover if it is a rust magnet then couldn't you take the tank to a radiator shop and have them dip it in their sealing vat. I have had a gas tank done this way for a motorcycle, I didn't know if they would do it for a car or not.
