I just got my new parking brake cables installed and seem to have an issue with the foot lever wanting to stay engaged (in the down depressed position). This wasn't a problem when the cables were disconnected. Any ideas about what the problem and solution might be? Larry

Just happen to have a 48 up on the rack that is highly modified but the emergency brake is factory so ignore all the funny looking stuff around it. First, pull down on the cable where there is about 8" exposed between the cross shaft arm and the frame bracket. You should hear stuff moving inside the backing plate and it should pull back on its own(first picture). Next, make sure the heavy spring is hooked between the crossmember and the clevis on the rod from the pedal (2nd pic). Check to see if the cross shaft is binding, it has the arch in it above the driveshaft (3rd pic). See if anything is near the rod where it runs between the cab floor and the frame cause it's close (4th pic). If all this is OK then it's isolated to the pedal assembly. Good luck

    Thanks

Evan - I will check it step by step. I'm pretty sure it's in the pedal, as it won't stay engaged but always wants to return. Great demo pictures.

And thanks again for the 'special tool' thread about the door window seal template. I made one on the weekend and installed both door window seals - sweet bit of assistance. I'm sure appreciative that you are out there, Larry

    It's fixed

Evan - thanks for the detailed check list. I replaced the spring at the floorboard under the flat "catch" bar (and the pads at the end of the thru the floor rod while I was at it) and viola ;) the parking brake stays engaged until a gentle pull on the release lever...Larry
