Fellow brought to me a 55 Fairlane on one of those slide back car trailers. The brakes are siezed up so tied a chain to a cedar tree so he could pull the trailer out from underneath it. My lot is crushed rock and when he put his Dodge 2500 in 4wd it just spun the rear wheels. Then my nephew hooked his 4wd Colorado on and it did the same. Finally my pilot friend hooked his 3500 Powerstroke on and the same result. They said some kind of sensor or computer locked the front wheels in after so much rear slippage and I said that was fine but they weren't going to sling all my rock into the next county to get the front wheels to working. I was headed for the forklift when my neighbor brought his ancient M37 army truck over, locked in the front BY HAND, shifted into 4wd BY HAND, shifted into low range BY HAND, and pulled the trailer out barely getting off an idle with the wimpy little 230 Dodge flathead six. All this push button stuff is fine for a wussy truck but to get work done one needs a real truck.

Great story Evan! Great truck too. Wish I had a nickel for everyone I ever saw in the various motorpools as a military brat!

That is a great story! No "Uneasy Rider" for you, huh, Evan?

    Thank You

For that clear explanation of why a 40 ~ 50 year old 6 Banger truck is all anyone ever truly needs .
