I have a 53 12Volt 3100 Chevy. Can someone recommend a horn and where it can be mounted? The truck has an oil filter. Thanks, Scott
Hi Scott, It all depends on what you are looking for. If you are looking for period correct there are many options. What engine are you running? 216 or 235? Or something else? I fabbed up a bracket behind the grille on my truck so anything will work there as it's out of sight, although the 6 volt horn there is no longer working. I need to take it out, and adjust the points in it, repair it or replace it with another, possibly modern horn. There are many ways to go with this. So many options depending on what you want to do. I'm running a 235 in my truck and don't really care about period correct parts so I may just go with a modern high/low set of horns under the hood for ease of operation and safety. A quick trip to the Pick-a-Part may answer your question. Andy
I zoomed in on his picture of the intake manifold and Nate is right. No holes for the horn mount drilled in that little vertical "fin" on the manifold. My '52 (admittedly a GMC) has the holes and came to me with a horn bracket mounted in them. So I guess Scott's truck must have mounted the horn elsewhere. Any chance that engine didn't come in that truck? Note the Chevy orange thermostat housing. The head casting number is correct for 1954-55. I cant read the casting number on the intake manifold.
Simply the fact that it's a 1956 or later full pressure 235 indicates it didn't come in that truck in 1953 .
