OK, i give- can anyone tell me how to remove the vacuum wiper motor and related linkage . I've got the motor loose, but can't figure out how to get the wiper arms off of the piece that comes through the cowl. Do the rods that go from the motor to either wiper disconnect at the motor or what? thanks for any help.

Yes-the transmission arms do come off the motor. There are two keepers held together by a light spring. The keepers have a keyway, not just a hole. Slide them up and off. As far as removing the transmission arms from the truck, you have to remove the wiper arms. Then remove the octagonal nut on the outside. Now, the transmission will pull through from under the dash. the wiper arms have a finger that latches them on to the transmission arm you have to pry it back and pull up to get them off
