My 54 truck rears are 6 lug and the fronts are 5 lugs. Need to put new brake shoes on both front and back. The auto parts store said they have shoes for my year, but I know 1954 all had 6 lugs. Can anyone suggest brake shoes to put on the front 5 lugs? Thanks
The 54 Chevy passenger car front hub (5 lug) will slip right onto the truck's spindle. This used to be a real common change when someone put a later model (with numerically lower ratio) with 5 lugs rear end in our trucks and then wanted to have matching bolt patterns on the front wheels. I don't know for sure, but I think this conversion kept the truck brake shoes. I'm sure someone else on this forum will know about the shoes. If everything else on the front end looks stock I'll bet this is what you have.
