55 Cowl Vents

What is the best way to clean the leaves and dirt from the cowl vents? I have an original 1955 3800 series step side. I have tried washing them out with a garden hose. I got a lot of stuff out, but still when I open them while driving I get a face full of leaves and dirt. Thank you for the help.

there is a drain opening in the rear of the front wheel wells. it has a cover panel with one screw. remove panel and dig out leaves and ete etc
