    with the rainy season on the door step, I thought it might be a good idea to find out why my wipers havent been functioning properly. It seems I have a constant ground thats keeping my wipers on all the time, unless I unplug them under the hood of course. So I pulled out my shop manual and starting digging. "Pull off the housing on motor and check this and this.." it says. So I humbly obey. OK Great! Found the problem, fixed the problem, no how the heck do I get the case back on when the brushes keep popping out of their little nook? My fingers obviously wont fit in the housing to hold them in place while I put it back on. Refer back to manual. "Replace housing so that brushes make contact with stator." Really book? Just like that? ugh... Ideas anyone??

    Electric Motor Assembly

    I'm not there to see but ;

    Many of these old tech motors have little holes you can ever so carefully thread a toothpick or unbent paper clip through to hold the brushes back as you slide the case 1/2's to - gether .

    Others you have to angle the case 1/2 into place so you get first one then the other bush on the armature ~ BE GENTLE ! carbon brushes are delicate and don't like pressure whatsoever .

    I do believe Nate is correct, I remember using two long nails to hold the magnets in place until the motor cover was over the motor brushes. I think they have a brass ring around them. Once in place the two five inch long screws are then installed.

    any way you can use a very thin piece of wire to hold the brushes in place while you assemble the case, then just cut and pull the wires when done, just a thought

    I had a problem with the same electric motor and it seems there has to be a lot of ground on the casing and so on.
    That is why there are these little brass fingers on the casing that go against the cabshell/dash.
    Maybe it is best to make a bypass to the cab and the wipermotor casing
    The wipermotorbutton works on ground as well and has to be tight to the dash with the special washer that's on it

    To park the arms there is a little adjusterscrew and tightning/locking nut (about 1/2 inch) on the casing.
    when you unlock the screw and turn it in a bit it gives a drag on the wipermotor axle.
    This drag has to be exactly right to keep the axle in a position so the canceling cam that pushes to the regulator that stops the motor stays in a certain position.

    To little drag: the motor keeps turning because it misses the canceling cam procedure.
    To much drag : motor gets to hot or wears to much on the adjusterscrew

    My 2 cents
