Has anyone experienced the rear of the hood poping up when the hood is shut which didn't happen until I installed the springs. B4 that it laid fine. They are the original springs.

If they are the original springs and you can't adjust out your problem then the hinge pins are worn out. I ran in to this on a truck once and to fix it without replacing the hinges I pulled the springs off and got the hood to lay down then I could see that the pins in the hinges and the holes they go through were worn out so I pushed them down as far as they would go and welded the pins in to place. After doing this I put the springs back on and re adjusted my hood then my problem was solved I hope this helps.....Big Tim

I solved this problem on my '57 GMC by:
    a. mark current hinge to cab vertical position
    b. loosening the top hinge to cab bolt 1 turn.
    c. loosening the bottom hinge to cab bolt a lot
    d. insert shims between the bottom on the hinge and the cab. I used U shaped front end alignment shims and slid the open part of the U onto the lower bolt. Ended up using three 1/16" shims on each side.
    e. re-align hinge to cab position as marked in step a and tighten the bolts.

Hey Bill, I got to thinking,is my setup Different than Yours?
My Springs attach to the hinge at one point and then attach to
    the inner fender well!
Doesnt your (Spring) attach just to the hinge itself?
    Thanks again,Allen

    I didn't read enough!

Sorry guys. I didn't realize we were talking about 58-59 hinges. The 58-59 hood hinges are totally diffetent than the 55.2-57 hinges.

Your rivets in your hinges are shot time for new ones. You have movement in the 58-59 hinges but not alot.Take the hood (open) move it up and down and see if the hinges have play.If they do then it will pop up like that. The after market ones work great i have bought alot of them.
