    I have a 61 Apache and am thinking about converting the original generator/regulator system to a 70's style alternator. Does anyone have any experience or comments? Thank you

    Comment first: It's a great upgrade, that you won't regret.
    Experience: I've done it on two vehicles. A 72 Chevelle and my current 64 panel. In both cases I used a harness that our hosts here at ChevyDuty supply. For your earlier model use this harness;

    (1960-62) Alternator Conversion Kit
    V8 - Generator to Internal Reg. Alternator. 1960-62 harness is used along with existing stock harness. The 1963-66 harness is an easy plug-in conversion that can be used with 1985 and earlier alternators.
    Part # 52-895

    Once the alternator is mounted it's a 10 minute job. Well worth the $30.

    Thanks for the info. My 15 year old son and I are early into a restoration so I'm sure I'll have many more questions.
