Ok, finally got around to an update. Put the 305 with 3spd overdrive in with one day to go before hauling our camper up to Watkins Glen racetrack for the vintage races. Took a risk with a leaking rear main seal and t-stat housing but did some prayin and hit the road. Truck ran great and pulled the load fine and even had a gent at the races offer to buy BOTH the truck and our 'vintage' 1972 camper. At the same time as the swap I put in a vacuum brake booster and hydraulic clutch conversion. Still is 4whl drums, but stops much easier. Used a 72 blazer bellhousing that bolted in on the center crossmember but has the bigger input bearing hole for the newer transmission. Shifter fits beautiful with the bench seat........have to keep a bench seat so that your babe is right next to you when she's in the truck.
