Well i finnally got my other problem with my flashers working I am still having some problems with my brake lights. I know its somewhere under my dash becuse i have replaced all my wiring from the firewall to the rear end and my flashers work fine. The first thing i am trying to replace it my break light switch in the break pedal. I have looked all over the pedal and then only think i have found is a orange and white wire going to something under the e break housing at the top of the stearing column. Although it doesnt look anything like the white plastic pice i ordered from ChevyDuty i dont know what else it could be. I was told that i was down at the base of the column but there is nothing there. if it is up at the top how do i get to it. do i have to take the whole ebreak assembily off to get to it? If anyone has any pics of this that would help alot. Even just a snap shot from their own truck or something. HHHHHHHHHHHHHEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEELLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPP MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The brake light switch is indeed located on the e-brake housing. What you have in there now is anyone's guess... I'm at work and trying to remember how it mounts. The switch should be mounted so that the switch plunger makes contact with the front side of the brake pedal arm. When the pedal is depressed the switch plunger is released activating the lights. ( I think ? ) When I'M depressed, I just listen to sad music!! Dennis
Your stop light switch is located on your brake lever, that's what activates the switch is the brake lever. If you have a fax number I can fax you the picture of the switch mounted in the steering coluum bracket that holds the brake lever.
to answer your questiong dval...what you said was right about the placement and operation of what i saw on my truck...that at least confirms what i was seeing now for the next question Do i have to remove my ebreak housing to get at it...i dont see any other way. and if i do is it going to be a pain in the *** to get the ebreak back on with the cable and everything (ie is it under tension and i have to release the cable or something?) i dont want to get myself into more trouble then i already am. PS does this sound like it could be just the switch at this point? Answer to tech1...no i dont have a fax number but if you can email it to me please. seeing a break down of the switch and bolts that hold it on would help in the disassembly. send it to kjprince@comcast.net
Hi Kevin, If you have big mitts like me getting to the switch can be a real pain. But, lowering the e-brake assembly is not a big deal. There are 4 bolts, two per side, on the housing. Take those out and lower the entire assembly. The steering column will also drop some, don't worry about it. The column retaining strap on the firewall will hold it up till you are done. Don't worry about removing the e-brake handle or cable. A half hour cramped up on the floor laying on your back and your done. Dennis
i haven't had a chance to replace the switch yet...that will have to wait untill this weekend. I had another quick question...i have a red wire that connects on the left side of the fuse box and runs with a harness up under my dash over the stearing collum and then just hangs under my dash at about mid point. normally i wouldnt think much about this and just yank it but i have noticed some other pics of trucks from about my year truck that have the exact same wire with a black connecter at the end. I have a 230ci 3 on the tree w/o air with lights not gauges on the dash. Anyone know what this could be....dvalentine?? lol you seem to be the one to ask all knowing one lol.

According to the 64 wiring diagram the RED 14 gauge wire running through that harness originates at the ignition switch. Once the key is turned it then supplies power to headlight switch, horn relay and the fuse panel. It sounds like the loose end should go into the ignition harness. Look at the back of the ignition switch to see what that harness looks like. If it appeares melted or distorted, check that all the wires coming from the switch are intact. Look for the red wire off the switch. If there is a wire missing , or the red lead off the ignition is severed, I think you found the culprit. DV
I will check that out and see. Does it help to know that my head lights "kinda" work with this wire disconnected? kinda = driver side low beam works; pass side high beam works and low works if i give it a little kick (that i will fix later)
[updated:LAST EDITED ON Feb-13-04 AT 11:49 PM (CST)]hey DV i found this page from a thread on ChevyTalk the pic on the right shows the little red wire right next to where is says "FIRE WALL CONNECTOR". this is the exact same wire i have in my truck that i am trying to find out what it is? Still trying to find out what caused the problem but ALL my lights are now working fine. Now to move onto getting my fan/heater to work
