Craig I'm having problems with my exsisting sending unit/gas guage. My gas guage tends to float back and forth when half empty. It also flickers very vigerously back and forth like it might have some kind of power surge. When the gas guage reads half a tank the gauge needle tends to flicker very vigerously. What could be the problem ? All my ground wires are grounded properly to clean metal. what are the ohms of gas guage ? thanks
0-30 ohms. I seen this problem once one a car that the people always kept it at about half, or less. After years the carbon on the strip gets worn down. I have not removed the sending unit out of my tank, but sometimes you could clean the contacts up on older units, just make sure you seal it real good when done. If they are not to expensive I would just buy a new sending unit. I no longer use this style but have my tank up in the rafters for some stupid reason. I use a fuel cell now.
We have sending units available for $54.95 part#23-527.If it only flickers when in the half tank range then I would also say that it has a carbon build up on the sender. You can try and clean it,but after that many years it might not come clean. Craig Hager tech1@chevyduty.com
