I have a problem with my '65 K20 4x4. The tranfer case shift lever keeps popping out of 2H and goes into 4H as soon as I start off(the shift pattern is 2H-4H-N-4L). Is there an adjustment with the lever (the lever does not touch the floor when in 2H) or is the transfer case due for an overhaul?

Sounds like it's not getting completely engaged into 2H. The shift mechanism looks like... well, a tinker toy set-up. The arm that connects to the lever has an adjustment on it and the arm may be hitting the crossmember, not allowing the transfer case to completely engage into 2H. So even though the arm isn't hitting the floor, it is still at the end of it's travel.

I've got the 4wd supplement to the repair manual and it explains the adjustment procedure. However, I've found it online but using google and search for "rockwell 221 transfer case" and found a few sites that had those pages posted.

    Hey,

Found the URL for the transfer case pages. This website has the transfer case drawings.

    Good luck
