RE: 66 chevy automatic trans. cross

When I put a TH-350 in my truck, I just went down to the wrecking yard and yanked one out of a 67-72 model. I can't say for sure what year the truck was that it came from, but the framerail width was identical to that on my '65 and put my tranny exactly where it should go. I don't know how long a TH-400 is compared to a 350, but with this crossmember your came move it fore or aft as needed. When I went to put it in my truck, 5 of the 8 holes in the frame lined right up with those in the crossmember so I just drilled out the other 3. No sweat, but the "new" crossmemebr had no provision for any parking brake mounting, so you'd have to get creative here(my truck still has no parking brake). If you don't like dealing with grease-caked junkyard parts and wouldn't mind spending a couple extra bucks an aftermaket one from numerous companies would be just as good I'm sure. My neighbor had good luck with one from Classic Performance Products. Good luck!
