I have a '66 Fleetline long bed and I just put a brand new 350 crate motor in it. (I drove it home from the shop and it promptly ran out of gas!).

Anyway, the 2 speed powerglide is eating up my pocket when it comes to fuel. And now that I have this big ol' 350 in the, it's worse.

I have access to a 4x4 '78 Chevy pickup with the following:

    1) rebuilt TH350 tranny
    2) disk brakes
    3) power steering

I would like to add the items above to my '66 (i like it better) and possibly use the 4x4 drive train. I know 1,2,3 *should* be possible so I'm more concerned with turning a 2WD '66 into a 4WD truck.
Is *THAT* possible? :) When I get my tax refund, I'm promptly going to order a wiring kit from ChevyDuty (some fool broken into my truck and ripped out my $15 radio and made a mess of my wiring in the process) and a boatload of other items based on my research of my 4x4 hybrid situation. I want to be driving by the summer!

I don't necessary want the 4WD for rooting and such, I just want a safer truck (so I can stop sliding through red lights). I also want to lower the truck. So I'm thinking the 4x4 aspect is just for additioanl traction in bad weather, not mud bogging, etc.

I just think it would be cool to have '66 lowered street-only 4x4. :)

    Am I crazy?
