I have a 66 C10 with a 350 and 700R. This is a new acquire for show and street and I am troubleshooting what seems to be direct issues with the 700R. First off, I can start the truck in any gear - much to my surprise! Secondly, the backup lights do not work - can this be linked to the starting in gear issue - or a separate issue? Thirdly, the transmission "agressively" downshifts from overdirve at around 40-45 MPH whether under load or no load. I have owned other 700R equipped vehicles but don't recall "agressive docwnshifting" as speed reduced. I am almost certain the 700R is not the eletronic/computer version, but not completely sure. Can anyone direct me on starting points to diagnose the above probelms and fixes? Appreciate any assistance from the "lessons learned from trial and error"! I am an old school manual tranny guy with very little "hands-on working knowledge" of the autos! Thanks. DT

    Welcome DT !

I imagine the starting & no reverse lights issue is in the neutral safety switch ~ it's prolly mis wired , give that a look before touching anything else .
