Im new to this forum thing but it looks like there might be some good advice help here. I have a 73 C10 2wd. 350 with a TH350 trans. Little bit of motor work some time ago, and tranny has had work a few times over.. Now with a 1ton torque converter and shift kit. Iv had the problem a few times before and it happed to me again today.. Spun the input shaft on the tranny i am quite sure again. I always have wanted a 4 speed manual in the truck. I am wondering what kind of 4 spd's like to get put in these trucks? And how hard is the work? Thank you for any advice.
The two most common manual trans you will find in these trucks are the SM465 and SM420. Both are 4 speed with a granny low gear (G-1-2-3). If you want overdrive, you can also get an NV3500 or NV4500 5 speed from a '90s truck. From what little I've read, the NV3500 will bolt in place of a SM465, but you need to get one that was behind a 4.3L V6, or a 305/350 V8. As far as how hard it is to swap, all I've done was help my brother put pedals from a manual into his '73 K5 (bit of a pain, but just bolting stuff in), but it still has the th350 that came with it; so no idea on installing/setting up the clutch, cutting a hole for the shifter, etc.
Was wondering if anyone has knowledge of a high hump cover for a four on the floor with grany cover I have a picture of one...
