I'm trying to help out a local kid , his truck has a '63 > L6 engine and he needs an HEI distributor for it , here in So. Cal. Anyone got one I can buy affordably ? . new is $140.00 and he doesn't have that much $ . Used is fine , if you have a junker takeout , please include cap and wires etc. , plus the power wire with end . I'll come fetch it , take it off that greasy junk engine you have lying about if necessary . I gotta do this as the kid is thinking of giving up and buying a newer truck . I can't have that on my consience . TIA ,
Nate, The one rons50 mentioned is probably better than one I THINK I have. It's from the first year or so and has a flat cap with a seperately mounted coil. Chevy used this on the I6 for one or maybe two years before going to the coil-in-cap set up. Condition unknown so it's very cheap if I can find it.
Mini Hei Nate maybe these are alternatives to look at ? http://www.stovebolt.com/techtips/HEI_mini.html http://stoveboltengineco.com/catalog/store/#!/~/category/id=361515&offset=0&sort=normal Martinius.
THANX Everyone ! I wish I'da seen that Flea-Bay one , I was able to find one OnLine for $88 including shipping and he ordered it last night . Even , that separate coil one was used in '76 & '77 , it's fine and I'll happily take it for my spare engine if you still want to part with it . all of it ~ old cap & wires too if you have them . the plastic coil cover and ring to hold the wires in place , are long out of production , not even in the Delco Catalog anymore . I'm old & foolish enough to like the separate coil thing . My Son followed my truck for 50 miles yesterday and said it trails a thin blue cloud pretty much all the time . I need to get busy and rebuild my spare engine and get my brother to do the heavy work in installing it ~ I've been collecting original hardware for everything as the DPM's who touched this poor old truck , discarded every single bolt & nut they touched and replaced with ill fitting and low quality new . I want to overhaul & properly break in the current 250 engine before I yank it out but then , what to do with it ? I doubt anyone wants a newer I-6 engine no matter how good it is .
