The 51 GMC that was burned up in a building fire is getting a new lease on life. A man we did the metal and paint work on a 1949 never intended on using the stock chassis and running gear has bought the 51 since his 49 will be a straight bolt on situation. Many burned parts will need replaced but he has everything he needs for a do-it-yourself project which is exactly what he wanted. There was nothing wrong with the factory stuff so if anyone is looking for something like this let me know. Pictures show where we set the worked over body onto the stock factory frame so it was easy for him to move about. I'd guess the engine is a 248.

If the engine is original to the 51 (or 49) it would be a 228. Is he replacing the engine?

The only thing he's using is the GMC tin. All the running gear and chassis is 1974 Cadillac which I shortened and narrowed to fit an AD in 1976. Been driven many miles and the only thing done was to replace the worn out 472 engine at 200k with a 500 engine a couple years ago. My brain knew the GMC engine is a 228 but my stupid fingers wrote 248 and even worse, they're getting dumber.

Do you know anything about the condition of the 228 Evan? I might be interested for the right condition and price.
