Took my truck to a local show today. It was slow cause it was very overcast and I think a lot of folks stayed away cause not only is this thunderstorm weather but also hail weather. I have never seen panic faster at a car show than if someone says the h word. Anyway, got there late and didn't win anything but had a ton of people comment on the quality of the paint job and the length of the bed. I reckon this is one way to here a woman say they have never seen one that long. Seriously, that happened. Anyway, I have had the truck out on the interstate twice this weekend at about 60 MPH. Not quite sure cause I need to calibrate the speedometer. Anyway, it runs great and I really think that it is running better than ever after getting it up to speed for a while. It just goes to show that these old trucks need to and like to be driven. And I like to drive it too! Gater
Congrats!!! There is NOTHING like getting out onto the highway and passing a guy in a 3/4 ton SuperDuty in my old '65... I know EXACTLY how you felt!!
My bride and I took my 54 Ad out yesterday, drove about 120 miles at speeds around 60 mph. Not much more fun than that in a truck you built the second time yourself. We stayed off the freeway, but still had plenty of bumper riding tailgaters to deal with. We enjoy our AD. I used a GPS unit to set my speed, and just watch my tach since my speedo is disconnected due to spedo gear issues. The gps is right on, checked it with several other vehicles and using highway mile markers. Enjoy your truck. Big show in Beaumont next weekend. Jim
All you AD driving ...drivers... I have a long wait, but until then, I will live "driving my truck" through your stories. They all sound just the way God intended. 'Cept Gater. Now you know what you need to do. Get some size 20 shoes to wear at your shows. Set back in your chair, and be sure to put your feet up an a table when the moment is right!
LOL ! big hands help too We were driving yesterday in Pats new Lexus POC SUV and I watched with interest as it showed us driving off road , across the desert , thenew road has been moved several times to accomodate the housing devlopments , I guess when they finally figure out where it'll be permanently they'll let the GPS folks know..... OR , maybe the survey folks wil sober up Nothing quite like driving an old Chevy truck , they really do drive easily and ride well ~ my penchant for driving over curbstones and off into the scrub has amused many people over the years .
drivers? like every truck has one? I don't know how to use the gps maps, but can get the rascal to show me ground speed. I don't use it now that I know my speed per my tach. My truck is pretty nice, but my "bed" evidently isn't long enough to draw comments from the ladies. Can't get lost in the desert in East Texas, but one might get a bit turned around in the Big Thickety. Jim
