Trying to bend my linkage rod so it would not stick, I broke the linkage rod going from the accelerator to the intermediary mechanism before the carbuarator. It has been welded at least once so I am not sure what it originally looks like. Can I buy this somewhere. I see a short pin in the Chevy Duty Catalog, but it looks like maybe only half of what I need. Does this rod orginally hook to the inside or outside of the mechanism between the accelerator and the carb? Please advise. Thank you. kentc
Kentc I checked all my catalogs. Could not find what you needed. I am not sure based on checking a few web sites if you can get it. Maybe something to post for the people swapping out older engines for new. Ha Kevin you sitting on any ? Zig might have one but would be GMC backwards you kn ow negative is positive deal with him
You might try Obsolete Chevy Parts in Nashville, Georgia. They have been known to have some parts pidgeon-holed away that they don't show in their catalogs.
Accelerator linkage Thank you for the comments. I had it re-welded again yesterday, but it is out of align with the hole in the floor, so it needs a bend again (but that is how I broke it to begin with). I would like to kick the engineer in the butt that designed that part, real shit for brains, a no common sense individual he was. kentc
Try Will Bartlett. He is in CT. I bought a bunch of stuff from him and he has bins and bins full of parts that he pulls off these old trucks. His specialty is rebuilding and selling AD trucks for profit. He probably has the part you seek. Nice guy. Phone (203)725-6413
Accelerator linkage Thank you. I had a thought on hooking up the linkage to the petal and let the other end float as I move the petal up and down, in conjunction with the intermediarly linkage moving. Maybe I can adjust it without breaking it again, maybe. Or I might shave some skin off the rod in the thick part, maybe shave some off the hole in the firewall. But I have kept the note on Mr. Bartlett. I wish I had a torch, make it easier to work with and bend maybe. Nate, I may make a run at the new motor break in thing this weekend, the 3000 rpm for 60 seconds. I talked to another mechanic and he said anything over 2000 rpm would break in the new camshaft, making the oil pressure rise high enough to lub the camshaft adequately. Kentc
Throttle Rod & Breakin O.K. , they changed that doggone rod several times and 216 is different from 235 but as the cab settles down on the frame....... So yes , if you can bend it well and good , if not they're cheap used . Good on the breakin , it's not the lubrication that does the poper breakin , its called " Work Hardening " and I'm sure you'll find reams written on it on The 'Net I hope this helps . (this borrowed 'puter SUX ~ I just shook 6 Oz. of Ciggy ash and oast crumbs etc. out of the keyboard and it -still- misses keystrokes and Joey's jealous 'cause I typ faster than he so he's about to kick me off it..)
