    Hey family,
I'm planning on painting my axle Thursday, and I want to know if basic rattle can paint is durable enough for the job. I will probably use POR15 for the leaf springs, but I'm assuming that the can job is okay for the rear axle setup. What do you think, and what have you used?
    Thanks in Advance

    Proper preparation!

Prepare it properly and you can use anything that tickles you! Prep is the key!

    If You Have

    POR-15 , use it ! .

Foo-Foo can paints are O.K. but the rear axle gets a lot of road debris thrown up at it .

    brush or spray?

I have used Rustoleum satin black #7777, brushed or sprayed, with excellent results. The stuff has held up outside for years.
Prep is the big thing though.
    good luck!

I hit 'em with oven cleaner and a wire brush first, then some carb cleaner to get the small stuff. You may want to hit it with a little sandpaper to rough it up, then spray. Use a good quality spray paint and it should hold up pretty good.
