I finally bought the windshield chrome trim for my truck from our host. Found out that it's not the easiest thing to install (unless I'm doing something wrong). Does the windshield have to be out to put it in? Any tips?

Yes, and much swearing is usually involved. Check the build thread.

    DeLuxe Windshield Trim

    It's not chrome , it's stainless steel .

Yes , you'll need to remove the glass and grommet , the DeLuxe trims require a new and different typ of grommet , buy it ONLY from Steel Rubber Co. , less swearing and damage to your truck .

Lay the new rubber face down on a carpeted piece of plywood , lay some glass RTV in the slot then work the glass in , swearing as you go as the glass slips out repeatedly on the opposite side from where you're working .

All in ? good ~ flip the whole shebang over , press the rubber back on where it slipped then carefully insert the trim , being gentle as once it's bent , it's BENT , dig ? .

Trim in ? good ~ slip the rubber back on again and stuff a long piece of 1/4" or smaller plastic covered easily flexible wire (best) or some nylon string (good) or some cloth sash cord (you really enjoy the swearing & fighting part eh ?) in the body slot and go read Russ' instructions on how to install the glass and grommet Ay. to the truck .

If you can do this with no bloodshed and nary one bad word uttered , you're a Manly Man for sure ! :p .

Be aware that ANY shortcuts , no matter how minute , will double the workload , you can come here and cry & whine , we'll understand , BT , DT long ago .

Just remember, Robert~ You can do this. It's new, but you can figure it out. Heck, look at all the innovations you've already come up with.

What Nate said on the install.

If you used the new repop stainless trims.... you may have problems seating the trim in the rubber , as I have heard that the lip of the repop trim was not formed properly to set into the groove in rubber for it & the trim will work it's way out after installing the windshield.
