so i was going about my rust removal duties as usual and i noticed a piece of metal hanging from the door pillar so i hit it with a screwdriver thinking it was a chunk of rust and low and behold it was my vin tag. all this time i thought i didnt have one (damn PO). i cleaned all the bondo and 1000 coats of paint off it with some acetone. what do you think? the bottom coat of paint was an olive green color which goes with the big star on both doors. is there any way to find out if it was an official army truck? thanks-Robert
Vin tag Dont know if it was an Army truck. 6JP K means it came of the assembly line in November 1951 at the Okland plant. Not sure what the C-51 12 means though. Gerald
im not really sure if there is a way to find out. i would also like to know what the faint stamping "CFK" in the upper right corner is. thanks- Robert
Pretty Cool ! I thought you were asking about the real history of GM's ' Advanced Design ' trucks , it goes something like this : June 1947 GM anounces it's new , totaly re-designed line of light & medium duty trucks , Brand 'F' emplyees take one look and begin committing suicide by the hundreds Chrysler Corp. decides to bring in Psychologists to counsel thier workers on the assembly lines and thereby avoids the same bloodbath . GM decides the bottom line ($) is looking pretty good and decides to not run third shifts at the various truck assembly plants in spite of every truck they make in two shifts is allready sold and they could easily sell 1/3 more than the current output . GM Canada gets cute and saves $ by installing 216 Chevy engines into thier GMC trucks , Canadians are SO grateful to not be forced into buying brand 'F' trucks , they swallow thier pride and buy Advanced Design trucks under the Chevy or GMC nameplate in record numbers anyway . Dissapointed American buyers who cannot wait to take delivery of their sparkly new dream Chevy or GMC truck , trudge with heavy hearts to brand 'F' dealers and hope that purchase won't tank thier business while they wait to find a new or used GM truck soon . That , in a nutshell , is the TRUE history of Advanced Design Trucks from the wonderful Generous Motors Coportation , telling Americans what vehicles they want then building and selling them cheaply with affordable in house financing for over 60 years......
