I had my carb rebuilt recently and now my truck is having trouble in the mornings. The engine runs smoothly until I put it into gear, if I dont give it some gas it will stall and it has trouble accelerating. I already took it to my mechanic once to adjust the choke, but now that I'm going back to school I dont have the time to take it in again. Whats the procedure for adjusting the electric choke on a E4MC/E carb? Does it require any special tools or guages? Thanks, Craig
HELLO CRAIG, NO SPECIAL TOOLS JUST ADJUST COLD. REMOVE AIRCLEANER HOUSING NOTICE THE LOCATION OF THE CHOKE BUTTERFLY FIRST. IF CLOSED, THEN LOOSEN SCREWS AND SLOWLY ROTATE THE CHOKE HOUSING/COVER UNTIL BUTTERFLY OPENS FULLY. AFTER FULL OPEN, ROTATE CHOKE HOUSING/COVER UNTIL BUTTERFLY CLOSES AND STOPS(SHOULD HAVE A GAP AT HE BACK OF THE PLATE ABOUT 1/16" OR SO UNLESS YOUR PLATE IS DRILLED) ON THE ELECTRIC CHOKE HOUSING THERE WILL BE SOME MARKS AND SOMETHING THAT HAS A + OR - OR RICH OR LEAN. ALSO ON THE HOUSING NEXT TO THE MARKS ONE OR TWO. ADJUST THE CHOKE TO OPEN RICHER(LATER) OR LEANER(EARLIER). ITS EASIER THAN IT SOUNDS. THIS IS OF COURSE ASSUMING THE ELECTRICAL ELEMENT(SPRING) INSIDE THE ELECTRIC CHOKE HOUSING IS GOOD AND THAT THE CHOKE SPRING IS INSTALLED CORRECTLY. HOPE YOU UNDERSTOOD THE JIBBERISH I WROTE. Thanks Brant. The choke was replaced during the rebuild so it should just be a matter of getting it adjusted properly. I'm sure I can figure it out from your instructions.
HELLO AGAIN CRAIG, ONE THING I FORGOT TO MENTION, IS TO CHECK FOR VOLTAGE AT THE CHOKE. SOMETIMES PEOPLE TAKE FORGRANTED THAT ELECTRICITY IS THERE BECAUSE IT PLUGS IN PROPERLY. I'D HATE FOR YOU TO GO THROUGH ALL THE TIME AND READJUSTMENT TO FIND THAT THERE WAS NO JUICE AT THE CHOKE. DID IT EVER WORK AFTER THE SHOP REPLACED IT? THE REASON I ASKED, SOME GROUND INTERNALLY OTHERS HAVE AN EXTERNAL GROUND WIRE. CHECK THAT AS WELL. HOPE YOU GET IT WORKING. GOOD THINGS, BRANT
