Hi Cowboy, I found a series of articles in Streetrodder magazine detailing the installation of GM TBI fuel injection in older Chevy engines. I installed it in my 48 Thriftmaster. If you like, I can send it to you. Most of the parts can be aquired at the salvage yard. Like I said, I have it in my pickup(283 also), and it runs great. Hope this helps!
