How do you know which pole is positive and which is negative when connecting wires to the Ammeter. My wiring harness instructions call for connecting to either positive or negative poles.

    Thanks,
    Gallo

Hook it up and turn on the lights. If the needle swings to - it is correct. If it swings to + it is backwards.

    Thanks Bill!

Cool reply~ I had the same doubts- hooked it up, everything worked, so I guess it was right! "Someone" said something about the be-a-uty of these rigs. Here's a case in point. Try hooking up a wire to anyoldthing in a new car and see what it gets you! "WARNING WILL ROBINSON!!!! DANGER!!! DANGER!!! DANGER!!!"

Zig a lot of your GMC's are back wards anyway. Who ever heard a Positive Ground anyway ? On my '54 the outside pole on the Ammeter-(towards the left) is from the ignition switch feed & the inner pole is from the Gen.
