    For those of you working on those front spindles and kingpins - with Nates help I found the part number for the "concave expansion plugs" on the dormanproducts.com webiste p/n 500-015 for the 1 1/8 size. Now haveing noted that they don't always want to stay in place after the originals were removed and the staked metal cleaned up I was wondering if there was an additional 'fix' so here it is - Would it be just another stupid idea to use a sealer like j/b weld over the plugs to seal them in place and yet still be removeable at some later time if needed? :eek:

    Caps

    A little gentle persuasion with a hammer when they are in place will take a little of the curve out of them and make them fit reasonably tight and then you can make new stake indents with a small chisel with the end ground flat in the gaps between the original stakes, not advisable to use anything of a sealant/glue type just in case it gets to the pins.

    Like Neil said ;

    You have to use a large round _flat_ thing nearly the same diameter to knock them partially flat so the expand enough to hold in place , one good SMACK with the BFH does the trick , hitting them more than once , ruins them .

    Then you must re-stake them , two stakes 180° apart will do fine .

    Never worry about asking a question

    Dont hesitate to ask any question you like on here, we are a band of brothers seeking the same goal (except for that smug Ken with his awesome bloody finished truck:rolleyes:)

    Only stupid idea concerning your problem would be to get a thumb between the BFH and the cap:D

    Follow up question?

    I changed out the kingpins and bushings on my G, and afterwards someone asked me if I greased the thrust bearings..... Duh!! Was I supposed to? Can I do it now with one of those little pointed grease injectors?

    Greasing

    Yes , jack up and block the truck so the front wheel are dangling , as you shoot the Zerk fittings , slowly turn the wheels left to right , after a goodly bit of greasing you should see grease begin to ooze out between the top of the spindle....

    Keep at it until there's grease oozing out all over , then wipe up the mess .
