Hey everyone anyone in the Dallas area (plano) that has pretty good knowledge on the side window installation of a 1958 Apache? I am having a hell of a time getting this stuff worked out, and i could use some sane help! I have been working on these doors for a few weeks now, and have been on every board and read every article about these windows and still cannot seem to figure this out So if anyone out there is interested in keeping me out of a straight jacket, I sure would appreciate it thanks in advance Garrett
Garrett,What area are you having difficulty with?in particular? Really not that hard you just have to have patience and take your time,Think, and work it threw.I Know this does not help you right now, but there are great guys here that can help! Allen
It is a lot slower than turning pages, but the GMC 55-59 Maintainence manual is on line here: http://chevy.oldcarmanualproject.com/gmc/5559mm/index.html
I have the factory build manual, and countless hours into the internet. Basically what has happened is when i bought the truck it obviously needed new glass. Took off the doors, got all the glass out of the door, got the glass out of the frames. Well crap now it cannot seem to get anything back together. the new glass and seals I got will not fit into the channels, even after using soap, wd40, a wood block and a rubber mallet. it is just driving me mental. I figured the vent window would be the pain, but it went together in an instant. So my frustration is about to lead me to buy the pre done windows and trying to send back the parts i ordered to do it myself.
How about Taking the Channels,Glass & seals to a Glass Shop and see if they can put them in for you? Sounds like the seals are a little to thick and preventing you from getting the Glass back into the channels,if it were me I Would take them to a Glass Shop as They have different thickness type of seals that should work for you! I Don't think they would Charge you That much too. FWIW,Allen
Here are a couple of options for you. Our very reasonable glass man can install them in 15 minutes if all the lights are out and he's blindfolded or you can come by the shop and we can plasma cut the outer skin off of a junker 55-59 door so you can see how one is when assembled. Already have a 47-50 door and 51-55 1st door done this way. Shop is in Trenton, Texas which is 38 miles from my home in Plano. Working on a 55 Big Window which is nearly ready for glass and a 58 in the waiting row. Larry (glass man) could come by your home if you choose that option; his shop is in Lewisville and he lives in Rockwall.
Thanks for the info, and the options. I have one thing I am going to try and then if that does not work, I will probably get your glass guys number thanks. Garrett
Garrett You've been extended a helping hand by the Master . Even doesn't ever toot his horn but he knows your truck better than did the guys who originally built it . I highly suggest driving over there .
Had the same issue, ended up finding the CORRECT glass setting tape for the wing & roll up glass from Vintique Inc 1/16" pt# B-37193-C and the 1/32" is part # B-37193-A I belive they cost me $6 ea for the 20ft rolls
