I have an automatic 81/82 and I'm wanting to restore and later race. What do yall think is better- an automatic or standard transmission? If I put a standard under him, I want a 6 speed- a 'sleeper' if you will. I should mention I am also planning on pulling the motor that is in him now for a larger/more powerfull engine. I'm open to opinions, ideas, and criticisim. Thanks yall!!:D

What size engine do you have now?
I'd say a 454 would be good, preferrebly out of a later model. It all depends on how much $$$ you got :7

There is a 350 v8 under him now. It's pretty good around the street-- so far.
I was thinking a 400 sm block. Money is no option, but I'm not going to go over board here. ;)

If it were me, id keep the the 350 and make it a 383 Stroker (350 .030 over with a 400 crank ground to 350 journals) and a TH350 transmision (probably what you have now if its an 81) or a 700R4 which would both need to be beefed up. Which is better is something you could argue with somone over all day long, but what it comes to is prefrence. I prefer manual myself but my better jugment says auto is probably best, you just cant outshift an automatic and that extra time in racing can make a difference.
