For some reason I thought u installed the bracket on top of the frame....like the original steering box was.(that is on my '48, not sure of your '57)
What kind of pump did you use? and did you use the original steering column?

I used a GM pump that came with the crate motor . I used a tilt column from Flaming River . I did cut down a stock column with a u-joint at the gear box. All I would have to do was put at bearing at the bottom of the column to keep the shaft centered in the column. So I know that could be done.

    Bobby,
Did you have to fab up a set of hoses for the GM pump to match up to the TOYOTA box? Just herd thru the grape vine the threads were different.
BTY Thanx for the picts they helped alot.
I got my u-joints and D-shaft from a f**d escort (hope that dosen't hurt anything)

I bought everything as a kit. hose kit included crimped metric fittings for the gear box and cut to length for the P/S pump.

    Heat Issues

I'd seriously consider getting a PS Fluid cooler for the return line as that's a bit close for comfort .

They're easily sourced from old Police cars and luxo-boats , small and simple they make a BIG improvement in PS Fluid operating temperature and reducing that nasty stink from burned fluid that most rigs get after a while .

Hot fluid causes leaks and seals to fail .
