i my truck in forth gear will only rev 2000. but in the lower gears it will rev to 4 or so. While in 4th gear and at 2000 i only do about 50-55 mph. And i get whoe able gas mileage, is that the cause of bad springs/valve train?
[updated:LAST EDITED ON Feb-26-03 AT 02:12 AM (CST)]More than likely, it's a combination of rear end ratio and, ( If it's like mine) that granny 4 speed. If you are getting better than 6 mpg,,, it's NOT horrible yet ! MINE is horrible. 3: 70 rear ratio and granny = horrible. Premium gas at $2.25 a gallon is a nightmare ! DValentine
More power!!!! the trucks sayin' give me power!!! (Couldn't resist) Seriously, the valve train doesn't know which gear you are in. Butch
[updated:LAST EDITED ON Feb-26-03 AT 11:21 PM (CST)]last time i checked i got 7 mpg. i did a compression check and it said that it had 120 psi in all cylinders giver or take a few psi. thanks for the help. i'm changing vavle springs this weekend so hope fully i will get about 15 mpg afterward. cowboy
> i'm changing vavle springs this weekend >so hope fully i will get about 15 mpg afterward. >cowboy I hope you have learned to live with disappointment....
Yes sir, back when gas was cheap nobody believed in good fuel mileage, just how much power you could get. Cowboy, valve springs wont help you much, if you got some crazy gear rario, valves wont mean anything. I think DV said premium up his way was $2.25, it's only $1.85 here, but that's still high considering it was $.95 here about 6 years ago. Robert
Hey Cowboy, have you considered changing your cam to one that produces more torque in the RPM rang your running? Butch
i though about replaceing the cam. but i have a chance to get some high compression pistons for about 25 for a set of 8 so i mihgt rebuild the engine.
