I have a friend who's working on a 72 long bed. He took out the two piece drive shaft because he preferred a solid one. He got one from a salvage yard and had it cut to fit his truck. Problem is when he goes over 40 mph it vibrates wildly. Another shop verified that the work was shoddy on the first drive shaft. He had recently bought a late 70's Buick for parts and as luck would have it, the drive shaft in it fit perfectly, but it vibrates at even lower speeds (around 25). He said that he had driven the parts car home and there was no problem with the shaft. Any ideas on this one? He did have 20" rims on all fours but switched back to the originals.

    1) Did you over tighten the u-bolts nuts on the u-joint? 2) How long is the drive shaft now? 3) whats the diameter?4) is the drive shaft and u-joints new or used? Thats all i got.Hope you find the vibration.

    Re:Vibration

The U-joints MUST be lined up perfectly in their saddles at the transmission and the differential or it will shake you out of the truck. Also,IIRC the U-joints must be 180 degrees from each other front and rear. Hope this helps,John

    Not good~

Would the pinion angle have to change on a shaft that went from split to one piece? My truck (being a 3/4 originally) has the split shaft. Just eyeballing the angle, it looks like it would need to change if I went 1 piece.

check your pinion angle with an inclinater. If its 4or 5 degrees you should be fine.
