Ball Collar Removal

    Torque tube 1/2 ton.What is the best way to get enough clearance betwean trans and tourque tube.To remove the Ball coller ,whith out removing trans or crossover ,is there a way.Thanks

    First, make sure the torque tube is clean of grease and dirt, especially where it necks down at the front. Unscrew the ring at the rear of the torque ball. Next, remove the bolts that attach the retainer to the transmission. Now, slide the torque ball back on the torque tube. This will open up plenty of room to access the u-joint. Support the bottom of the torque tube with a jack. Unbolt the u-joint trunion from the transmission yoke. Now, raise the torque tube. It should raise high enough to allow removal of the torque ball. Of course, you will have to have the transmission access panel removed...
