Recently bought a 1985 Custom 10 with excellent body and shot straight six. Put in new straight six and moved the shifter (3 speed) from the column to the floor. Steering wheel touches my belly with the seat full back. There is no cup holders or storage for new cd player's cds. Truck feels like it's going to rollover when I corner. Had bench seat rebuilt but still sags on right cheek due to poor job and poor design of seat. The bed has wooden boards which I would like to replace but only see kits of oak, pine, or wallboard paneling. Can I use treated lumber to replace them? Old truck and i have a long way to go, but I could sure use some input on the steering wheel, wooden bed, cab storage, sway, etc. Thanks guys.

Try a little smaller steering wheel.That is a common complaint on the 73-87 pickups.Check salvage yards for one thats a little smaller or there is plenty of aftermarket companies making steering wheels you should be able to find one that you like.Also check some later model chevy trucks,they have a better seat in them.You could use treated lumber for the bed,but it doesn't look as nice as pine or oak.

My truck problems and yours

I have a 1983 chevy silverado with a lift kit. my truck always would like to slide to one side on every corner. when i put it in the air i found out that my sterring box was lose, and my gearbox was not balanced.. my steering wheel was touching my stomach so i shortend the bed, keeping the original bed but using stainless still on the inside. to fix your truck all you need is some time.

You will also need to add a front sway bar,maybe even a rear one to keep the truck level during cornering.I can get you one if you are interested.
