bed swap, frame question & running

Hi experts,
I found a nice 86 C30 fleetside (8' bed) for sale. I want to purchase it only if the bed can directly be swaped with a longbed stepside (8') found on some C20 models. I know everything now a day is swappable but I'm keen to know if it is a direct bolt in with no modification whatsoever.

Second, is the frame different between the C20 & the C30?

Also, I browsed the internet looking for new running boards for a longbed stepside (8') as mine is a bit rusted out. All I found were for shortbeds. Could anyone direct me to a supplier that sells those?

second question... i know that the frames are more beefeyer on the c30 then the c20 but i dont know if the the design is different..

[updated:LAST EDITED ON Oct-03-05 AT 06:20 AM (CST)]Assuming that the C 30 you're looking at is NOT a dually, there is no problem with a bed swap. If it is a dually, there would be some cutting that needs to be done to the wheel arches on that bed. Also keep in mind that many (most) C 30 had dual tanks, while C 20 were standard with singles, so you may find yourself cutting a new hole in the passenger side of the box if there isnt one there now.

The frames, as mentioned, are beefier, and with a heavier suspension.

The running boards are typically made of aluminum, and should not rust, they could likely be polished up, assuming they are not bent or otherwise damaged. If the brackets that attach them are rusted, you may be able to fabricate some new ones yourself without much trouble, as it would be cheaper than replacing the boards themselves.
If new boards are needed, places like JC Whitney online would have them, or look in your local yellow pages for a 4X4 truck accessories shop.

Hi, 1 ton frames are usually a little wider than 1/2 and 3/4 ton trucks.
