Bedsides?!?

It seems complete bedsides are available for every year but 60-66!! Anyone know where to find some that aren't fiberglass knock-offs?
 
nope, i dont think so...unless you have someone make ya one... best bet is to do a little diggin on the web...hell i found another complete '66 shortfleet for $800. 25 mi. from the casa...happy hunting and merry christmas.:D

Why not checking out our host catalog..They have metal long or short not cheap though...

They do make long step side beds. That is our only option if you want new. The bed sides can be fixed now. They sell almost all the parts to redo your old bed. Top rails can be fixed with a strip of sheet metal.

Thanks for the quick input! As you can see, the side isn't too terribly bad, but there are quite a few ripples in it. I purchaced the corner patch, but after looking more through it, there is quite a lot of filler where the weld would be.
 
WOW!, If you think thats bad you shoulda seen mine:D, my advice, pop that trim off, get it down to bare metal, buy you a set of body dollys and hammers and have at it.. a little touch of a small jack under the rear quarter to help the metal take its shape may not hurt either. but again, thats my opinion. if that wouldnt work, then spend the big money... Merry Christmas.

Thanks again. In all likely-hood, that's gonna be the route I'm gonna have to take. I was just looking for the easy way. A friend of mine grafted a metal bedfloor out of a '68 into his '66. After seeing how relatively painless it was to remove the side all together, I wanted to find a better side before I broke out the welder and body filler! The weather here and the gas prices have been good enough for me to want to drive the truck whenever I can. I may put the project off till the summer and hope I come across one.
 
i found a nice cheap, $35, set of hammer and dollys from harbor freight...workin good soo far. and i feel your pain, workin out in the cold here is NOT enjoyable....good luck, if i come across a long bed ill let you know.

You can hammer & Dolly all You want, But Unless You Pull the Bedside back to Undo that Buckle above the Wheelwell & Most likely inside also, Your More then Likely Going to make it Worse .

Any Body Damage Needs to Be Undone Just Like it was Damaged in the First Place , Starting with the Point of Impact . I Would Also Check the Frame Measurements to Make sure Theres No Damage there .Just My 2 Bits . Best of Luck.

uh, im pretty sure the frame is fine..., looks like someone backed into a big ass steel table or something. it didnt even break the cheap ass plastic taillight lens. find you an old school bumper jack, put it against the back of the tire and put pressure on the back side of the end bed panel side, where the taillight is. oh yea, pull the taillight out. the rear of the truck is obviously the point of impact so putting pressure in this area and beating on the bed side should let the metal "remember" where its supposed to be.

I Recon I,m just seeing things then , Looks like the left side of the Bumper is shoved in further then the otherside . Of Coarse it Wasn,t No Virgin in the first place. The Other reason i said I would check the Frame Measurements .

Also Putting a Bumper jack against the tire isn,t exactly the safest advice Ive ever heard of .


The Quarter Panel is Buckled So Your going to take a chance Shoving against the tire on the left of the rearend forward trying to push the Bed side back . I Cant Wait to see the outcome of that fix . :D

It Was Pushed In Therefore needing to be Pulled out in Reverse of How it went in Like I Allready said . Beating on the Bedside shouldn,t even come into play If its done RIGHT . Just my 2 bits , I,ve Only been doing this type of work for 45 or So Years .
 
sorry, i wasnt sub'n a 4 post frame alignment for a bumper jack. the dent isnt that bad, therefore, the pressure against the tire and the rear quarter should be very minimal. also, if putting pressure on the tire 'moves' the rearend, then something else is waay loose. just my 2 cents as well.
p.s., like my daddy tole me long time ago, just cuz someone has been doing something for 'long' time, dosent makes them good at it. i work around a couple of those people, theyve been doin it 20yrs longer than me, but alas, im not the one pulling trains in two....;)

Agreed GT . Didn,t Mean to come off Wrong & Wasn,t Trying to be A Smart A** . I,ve Just seen to many People Make more of a mess of things Then Necesary .

I,ve Never Worked For or in A Body shop, I,m Self Taught & Had My Own Shop since I was a Kid , If & When I needed Equipment I Built it according to My Needs & Your Right , Just Because I Claim to be Doing this for many Years Means Nothing. But I,ve Fixed Many of these types of Easy fixes after Someone Else Attempted it & it can get Frustrating & Costly to the owner .

I Was just Offering advice from My Experience . If I came off Wrong , My Appologies . All I Was getting at it is An Old Truck. It Has been hit Before & Might have not been fixed Properly then. Just Trhowing some ideas out there. Trying to Help.

This is what I HAVEN'T gotten from any of the other forums or chats I've been in so far. "Actual Input"!! I DO appreciate EVERYONE'S 2 cents. I plan on putting in more pics, but what you may not see from the one I have up is the amount of filler around the actual dent. It in fact HAS been hit there before and repaired. It was my uncles truck at one time before his sight went, and he tagged a few things backing up. I've since replaced the rear bumper and have had the frame checked. It's down to just cosmetic. There is actually A LOT of filler, by my standards, in that rear corner from the middle of the wheel-well to the actual dent. Which brings me back to why I wanted to just replace it altogether.
