Bendix Break Conversion

Greetings All

Expecting delivery on a "47 AD" in a week or so. Will most likely put disks
on the front, but would like to convert the rears from Huck to Bendix.

Looking for advice - insights - sage wisdom - etc on the Bendix conversion.
Heard a couple rumors it's tough....?

Brakes Are Broke ~ Bendix Conversion

it's a straight up bolt up deal ~ go find a hot rodder who's scrapping out the Torque Tube rear end off a '51 ~ '54 3100 series (1/2 tonner) and buy the whole thing for under $100.00 , take off the entire brakes , backing plates & all , _ONE_SIDE_ at a time , clean and re-paint , assemble onto your '47 using the not yet taken apart side as a guide when you get lost and you'll be happy with how well it'll stop .

These old rear ends are _heavy_ so once he has to move the old takeout rear end 'round his garage or yard , he'll be begging you to give him a few $ and take it away.

The Bendix brakes are the same up through the 1967 model year , I am not sure about the backing plates tho' so use the ones of the donor rear end but drums , shoes and wheel cylinders are all cheaply available new .

DO NOT turn the drums unless you get pedal pulsation ! they're none too thick to begin with and Bendix factory training says don't do it even if the shoes were run to metal ~ just smooth it up a bit with 600 grit sand paper and it'll be good to go .
