This is old news, but new to me.
I know I can try to find one that hasn't bent [yet].
Mine was stressed too much for the angle iron braces to stop the cracking.

Are import hoods worth the trouble?

Can I install a later hood [or front clip] that uses the clock springs instead of the coil springs? Will the hinge assemblies interchange?

    I wasn't born, or conceived, in a Suburban, but I started riding in a '48 in 1952.

    Thanks!

The import hoods are very nice, but they also could bend in the same spot. They make braces that stiffen the hood up and prevents it from bending.

How about converting to the later style hinges or front clip?

The hoods don't bend because of the springs. They will bend if the hinge gets sticky. If you keep the hinges lube with lithum grease you won't have any problems with the hood bending. No matter what kind it is.
