I'm getting one of those reproduction radios for my 53 and wonder about where to locate the antenna and what kind. I had one located at the inside top of the rear window below the dome light. Didn't like it so out it came. I read where someone placed a similar one underneath the passenger side running board. That sounds good if it works. I do like the cowl side mounted types and wonder where the best location for those may be. The driver side mounted type gets really close the the cab belt line in order for the hood to open. I tried searching this forum but still seeking advice. What is the most successful and best looking location for your build? Thanks
I just bought the antenna that was mentioned by DEAD ZONE TRUCKING.I was thinking of putting it inside the truck. When I received it, the directions said that it has to be attached to a place where it can show through glass. Do I have to,or can it be put to a metal fender or some thing? anyone with experience? steve
No See Um Antenna I installed the same style of hidden antenna in my Model A, under the dash.... It works. Funny that the instructions you received specify that it has to be mounted to see threw glass when the instructions in the above link state "Can be mounted anywhere in your vehicle such as in your glove box,.... in your trunk, ...." Wierd
I have that antenna now and it was pasted to the rear glass. I just don't like the look. I'm installing the radio this week and I will experiment.
Antenna Location The main thing is to never , EVER mount an antenna on the curb side ! . Too many envious jerkhoffs will simply snap it off as they walk by . Running board antennas work O.K. In - Town but they tend to create static whenever you drove over a manhole cover , they also don't work well out of city limits . I'm keen to hear how well this powered & amplified one works out .
I installed the hidden antenna from our host on my truck. It's at the top center of right side windshield. Can see it just above rear view mirror in picture. Works well, and hardly noticeable.
Thanks Bilbo: That looks like a good place. I have a bonnet so I wonder if it will cause interference? Not a lot of places to hide. Getting the radio installed tomorrow. Will experiment then.
Works for me As it turns out. I found that I like the hidden anttenna best on the passenger side visor, close to the windshield. When folded up the only thing that gives it away is a very discrete two inch piece of black cord before diving under the rubbed inner door moulding. I can send a picture if anyone wants to see.
Not like this~ I installed this before I had the hood on~ It looked good at the time. Hey, it still works just fine. I think I'll put a little goo at the base to protect it from the weather. Ya know, once I'm actually driving it out in the elements...
Ouch! Yeah I read that the antenna needs to get close to the belt line to avoid that kind of conflict.
